3-Day Usambara Mountains Hike

Day 1: Arrival at Mkuzi (1564 m) via Lushoto

Embark on your journey from Lushoto to Mkuzi, surrounded by lush plantations and dense rainforest. Learn about the rich history of the Usambara Mountains, including tales of the former king, Mbega. Explore the German Cave and encounter the vibrant wildlife, from black and white colobus monkeys to chameleons and colorful butterflies.

Day 2: Mkuzi (1564 m) to Lukozi (1746 m)

Time: 10 hrs

Distance: 20 km

Begin your day with a visit to the captivating Mkuzi Waterfalls, immersing yourself in the serene beauty of this natural wonder. As you continue your hike, traverse through the scenic KJ forest, encountering picturesque viewpoints along the Usambara Mountain Ridge. Take a moment to indulge in the local culture at villages, where you can taste the traditional banana beers. Journey onward, passing by the charming Kadecho Waterfalls, and ascend to Mambo View Point, where you'll spend the night. From this vantage point, soak in breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro, Tsavo National Park in Kenya, Mkomazi National Park, the Pare Mountains, and the shimmering lakes Ndungu and Kihurio.

Day 3: Lukozi (1746m) to Rangwi (1913m)

Time: 2 hrs by car

Distance: 60 km

Wake up to a magical sunrise and savor the stunning view as you indulge in a comforting cup of tea or coffee. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive back to Lushoto.

Upon arrival, you'll catch your transfer to Daressalaam, Moshi, or Arusha, bidding farewell to the enchanting Usambara Mountains.

Day 5: Departure from Tanzania

Today offers a leisurely opportunity to unwind after your trek before your departure flight. Take advantage of the free time to explore Moshi town, perhaps picking up some souvenirs to cherish your Tanzanian adventure.

If you're inclined to extend your exploration of Tanzania, consider adding on a safari, a visit to Zanzibar, or other exciting adventures.
